Where to Find Custom Sugar Cookies in New Jersey for Parties, Weddings

Personalized sugar cookies have become big business over the past few years.

These aren’t the semi-amorphous snowflakes and carelessly frosted hearts your grandmother made. (Although they are delicious.) These sugar cookies created by artisan bakers are thick and sturdy, with firm, crisp edges.

And the icing? This is where the real magic comes in, with bakers creating stunning patterns, cute creatures, frilly ruffles and delicate lace, all with pristine, shiny icing.

Sugar cookies are now used as a way to ask people to be at a wedding party, announce a pregnancy, get a prom date, celebrate a birthday – heck, even propose. And while homemade cookies are sweet, when it comes to such intricate cookies, it’s best left to the professionals.

Here’s where to find pristine, personalized sugar cookies in North Jersey.

Pastries by Brit, Jersey City

Brittany Stapert started Bakes by Brit three years ago with nothing but a love of baking and a very steady hand. Her cookies are gorgeous – decorated to look like frilly baby dresses, rockets and adorable zoo animals. An accountant by day, Stapert said she had no formal artistic training, although her carefully crafted cookies show a natural talent for design.

“I see videos online about different types of cookies all the time,” she said. “I’m keeping them and can’t wait to try them. For example, I recently experimented with tie-dye cookies.

Stapert said her most common orders are for weddings or bridesmaid boxes (cookies that ask the question in frilly letters “Will you be my bridesmaid?”). But customers can request any type of design, from Harry Potter cookies to Hello Kitty.

Wish on a pastry, Midland Park

Wish Upon A Pastry can make darling personalized cookies for your baby shower.

When Torre Liebchen and Michelle Micek lost their jobs due to COVID, the two former steakhouse employees decided to channel their passion for food into a business called Wish Upon a Cookie. The two baked beautifully decorated cookies and handed out free boxes to neighbors to brighten their day. Before they knew it, moms groups were touting their cookies on Facebook and their business started to grow.

“People started asking for more things – cakes, cupcakes, other pastries,” Micek said. “Our business was booming. So Wish Upon a Cookie morphed into Wish Upon a Pastry.”

Now their bakery offers dozens of pastries. But, they still offer those personalized cookies that started their business. If you’re looking for Disney-themed cookies, this might be the best place to go, as the owners are avid Disney fans (hence the name Wish Upon a Pastry).
