How do many of us in North Jersey know that spring is just around the corner? Daffodils peak in the ground, bumblebees start to buzz – and Van Dyk’s reopens for the season.

Ridgewood’s legendary ice cream shop – it’s been brewing ice cream for a century – is set to reopen on March 6 after, as usual, going into hibernation in early December.

Fans know there are no seats inside the no-frills ice cream shop, but there is a small stone wall outside that easily turns into a makeshift dining room. Inside, there are nearly 40 flavors to choose from, which change with the seasons, but you can count on classics like cookies and cream, coffee and chocolate chip mint. A summer favorite is caramelized blueberries with graham crackers. And summer is fast approaching,
