Meet Sweet Tee, Topeka’s New Homemade Ice Cream Shop
TOPEKA (KSNT) – A new artisan ice cream shop is set to open in the capital later this month. The best part about it? Free ice cream will be on the table for its grand opening.
KSNT 27 News spoke with the owner of The Sweet Tee, retired US Army Major and Kansas native Sarah Vanderpool, on Thursday to learn more about this new venture and its delicious desserts. She said the decision to open an artisan ice cream shop was something she had wanted to do for some time.
“My husband loves golf so we opened a golf shop and I love ice cream so that’s something I really enjoy,” Sarah said.
Sarah and her husband Matt currently own 8 Iron Therapy, an indoor golf course located at 2841 SE Croco Rd., Suite 400, which opened last year in August. The Sweet Tee will be in an adjoining suite so you can work up an appetite first with a few golf swings before heading to the ice cream shop.
The Sweet Tee will be open 7 days a week: noon to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, noon to midnight Friday to Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. The menu includes classic flavors like Vanilla, Oreo, Chocolate, Buttered Pecans, Strawberry, and Mint Chocolate Chip, as well as varieties suitable for vegans. The price is $4 per ball.
The menu will also include rotating and limited-time flavors throughout the year. The Sweet Tee makes all of its ice cream in-store and gets most of its products from Hiland Dairy and Dillons.
“Try it,” Sarah said. “I eat it once or twice a day. This is the best ice cream I have ever had. It’s all about product testing right now.
The grand opening of The Sweet Tee will take place on May 28. They will be offering free ice cream all day, from noon to midnight, while they last. They’re not looking for additional help yet, but Sarah said they’ll likely need some help running the shop in the near future.
