Weddings that take the cake

A homemade cake

TikTok user @darlinggoose chose to take a different path as she set out to bake and decorate her own cake for her wedding.

Using a canned mix containing rainbow bits, she set to work baking the different tiers used in the cake. @darlinggoose refrigerated the cakes and frosted them the next day with vanilla frosting. Rainbow sprinkles and cake topped off the two-tier wedding cake.

TikToker Takeout

Some viewers criticized the choice to have a homemade wedding cake.

“This must be a joke,” wrote one viewer.

“No… just no lol,” another commented.

One felt the cake looked like a birthday cake instead of a wedding cake, while some questioned why she decided to use sprinkles.

“I hear your guests judging,” one comment read.

However, many have come to her defense and praised @darlinggoose for baking her own wedding cake.

“Thank goodness someone has common sense and doesn’t pay 500 for a wedding cake,” one TikTok user commented.

“People are so mean,” wrote another. “I don’t remember anyone’s cake at the weddings I’ve attended. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. [It’s] your day! Congratulation!”

“Okay, this is the cutest cake ever, I’m obsessed,” one viewer commented. “So different from regular wedding cakes and you save A LOT of money.”

The video even prompted Betty Crocker’s verified TikTok account to comment.

“How beautiful,” the company commented. “You shook it!”

Newsweek contacted @darlinggoose for further comment.
