We’re no strangers to jazzing up a store-bought baking mix: we’ve made everything from birthday cake cookies to popcorn using Funfetti Cake Mix, and we’ve loved transforming our favorite brownie mixes with adding snacks, like in our Kit Kat Stuffed Brownies or Cookies ‘n’ Cream Brownies. If you’re looking for a similar technique with a little extra flair, try these cheesecake brownies made with Ghirardelli’s Double Chocolate Brownie Mix. Because it’s a solid brand with a focus on fine chocolate, these brownies are a cut above the rest and are as perfect for a romantic dessert as they are for bringing on a picnic.

(18 oz.) Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix Box

8 oz.

cream cheese, room temperature

1 tbsp.

all purpose flour

1 C.

pure vanilla extract

  1. Preheat the oven to 325º. Lightly grease a 9-by-9-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Line with parchment paper, leaving 2″ overhang on 2 sides; grease parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk egg, oil and water until smooth. Add brownie mixture and stir until well blended. Pour all but 1/4 tsp. brownie batter in prepared pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk cream cheese, sugar, egg white, flour and vanilla until smooth and well blended. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture over brownie batter. Spoon some reserved brownie batter into the center of each dollop of cream cheese. Using the tip of a butter knife or skewer, gently swirl the brownie and cheesecake batters, creating a marbled effect.
  4. Bake until a tester inserted in the center of the brownies comes out with only a few crumbs attached, 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool in pan on wire rack at least 15 minutes or let cool completely. Remove from pan using parchment paper overhang and cut into squares. Sprinkle with sea salt, if desired.
