Husband and wife Ben and Wendy Treadwell launch Bendy’s Cookies & Cream, a homemade frozen sandwich food truck.

A Homewood couple is launching a food truck this month that offers homemade ice cream sandwiches — but with flavors like Sweet Cream Cookie Butter Swirl and Strawberry Buttermilk, it’s not the sandwiches you grew up with.

Ben and Wendy Treadwell prepare to launch Bendy’s Cookies & Cream food truck. It’s an ice cream truck or a cookie truck – customers can order either one or design their own ice cream sandwich with any desired combination.

“We’ll have some interesting flavors, but keep it simple and hopefully the customer will pick it up,” Ben Treadwell said. “If they want to put strawberry buttermilk ice cream between a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate chip cookie, they can do it. It’s up to the customer how wild and crazy they want it. .”

The truck will offer five to ten different types of cookies and about five varieties of ice cream.

Wendy Treadwell had dreamed of opening her own ice cream sandwich shop for years, and Ben Treadwell dreamed of owning his own business. After getting married two years ago, they decided to combine their dreams and pursue a food truck.

“There was a great plan in God that brought us together, so we decided to make it happen,” Ben Treadwell said.

Wendy Treadwell is a former recipe developer for Southern Progress, making recipes for Southern Living and Cooking Light. She is also from Homewood and graduated from Homewood High School.

Ben Treadwell said they dream of opening a brick and mortar store in the Birmingham area.
